The account posted again at 9:42 a.m., EDT, saying that “we’re reviewing network telemetry and recent changes to our networking infrastructure.”
“Additionally, we’re working with a third-party ISP to understand the underlying cause,” Microsoft said on X.
A separate Microsoft account indicated on X that the issues are also affecting Azure and pointed to AT&T as the impacted network.
“We are investigating customer reports of a potential issue connecting to Microsoft services from AT&T networks,” the Azure Support account posted.
Bloomberg also reported that the issues affected AT&T users. CRN has reached out to Microsoft for comment.
Reports of the outage on DownDetector.com began prior to 8 a.m. EDT, Thursday, and reports on the site escalated in the following hour.
The incident follows the major outage in late July that impacted services including Microsoft 365 and Azure.
In that case, the outage was initially caused by a DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attack, though the outage was worsened due to an “error” by the Microsoft response effort, the company disclosed.
