The acquisitions come in segments including the fast-growing area of data security posture management (DSPM).
A pair of data security startup acquisitions by Netskope and Cyera point toward continued consolidation in the market, with a focus on the fast-growing category of data security posture management (DSPM).
On Tuesday, Netskope disclosed its acquisition of DSPM vendor Dasera, which the SASE platform provider said would enhance data protection capabilities for its Netskope One offering. Financial terms of the acquisition were not provided.

Then on Thursday, Cyera announced it has acquired Trail Security, which it described as a “next-generation” provider of data loss prevention (DLP), for $162 million.
The acquisitions follow other deals in the data security space including Fortinet’s acquisition of Next DLP in August and CrowdStrike’s deal for DSPM startup Flow Security in March.
Last year, Rubrik moved into DSPM with its acquisition of Laminar and Palo Alto Networks did the same by acquiring Dig Security.
DSPM provides visibility into the locations and security of data stored in an organization’s cloud environments. It can provide a basis for locking down the data in the cloud at a time when cybercriminals and nation-state hackers alike are increasingly focusing on data theft.
For Netskope, the deal for Dasera, which was founded in 2019, will make DSPM available immediately on the vendor’s Netskope One platform, the company said.
Cyera, meanwhile, said in a news release that its acquisition of Trail Security, founded in 2023, “significantly elevates Cyera’s AI-powered platform” through the addition of “AI-enhanced DLP technology.”
Cyera is itself a startup, having been founded in 2021, and was recently named a startup to watch by CRN. The $1.4 billion company offers an agentless DSPM tool for discovery, classification and protection of data.
