5 Things To Know About OpenText’s Secure Cloud Expansion

OpenText announced a major expansion of its Secure Cloud platform Monday in what executives called a massive investment into generating growth opportunities with its MSP partners.
The OpenText Secure Cloud portfolio offers a range of security capabilities leveraging a series of acquisitions in recent years. The platform includes security and threat intelligence from Webroot as well as data protection from Carbonite and capabilities from email encryption provider Zix and security software vendor AppRiver.

With the new Secure Cloud launch, “this really marks for many of us the culmination of a four- or five-year journey,” said Geoff Bibby, senior vice president of marketing at OpenText, during a virtual event Tuesday.
What follows are five things to know about OpenText’s Secure Cloud expansion.
Platform Enhancements
OpenText executives said the enhanced Secure Cloud platform is aimed squarely at bolstering efficiency and growth opportunities for the vendor’s 18,000 MSP partners.
“This is the first purpose-built offering for MSPs within our security stack,” said Bryan Hauptman, senior vice president for SMB cybersecurity in the Americas at OpenText, during the virtual event Tuesday.
Key enhancements include simplification of certain workflows, automation of more tasks and new integrations, according to Bibby.
The platform also now has a “brand-new, contemporary look and feel,” he said.
Executives said the updates were in large part in response to feedback received from MSP partners.
MDR Coming Soon
Another major update disclosed Tuesday is that OpenText plans to debut a new managed detection and response (MDR) offering within Secure Cloud in November.
The OpenText MDR offering will be the new name for the Pillr MDR platform, which OpenText acquired from Novacoast, a cybersecurity solution and service provider, in May.
OpenText MDR will enable MSPs to “provision and deliver managed detection response” from within the Secure Cloud platform itself, Bibby said, leveraging the offering’s wide array of security product integrations.
“We don’t need you to always use our endpoint [security product],” he said. “We’d love it if you did — but that [MDR] solution has over 400 integrations already right out of the box. And so it’s a powerful way to exist in the ecosystem.”
Expanded Bundling
OpenText is also revamping its bundling options including with the introduction of a new bundle featuring “all of our core solution offers,” said Andrew Murphy, senior director of product marketing at OpenText.
The new bundling option brings together capabilities including email risk management and compliance as well as data security and risk management, executives said.
While OpenText recognizes that MSPs may have “existing partnerships that you’re not ready to move away from,” the company is seeking “to remove the friction from enabling you to turn those [additional capabilities] on,” Murphy said.
New Cyber Warranty
OpenText also touted its announcement from Monday about a new cybersecurity warranty offering available to SMBs and MSPs, through a new partnership with cyber warranty provider Cork.
The Cork Protection cyber warranty provides coverage for financial losses as well as recovery costs and legal expenses, according to OpenText.
“It’s a smart cyber warranty offering that helps keep you up and running — God forbid that you should have a breach or one of your customers has a breach,” Bibby said.
Foundation For Future Expansion
Additionally, OpenText executives pointed to the expanded and enhanced Secure Cloud platform as the basis for further advancements down the road.
“This evolution gives us the foundation now to do even more,” Murphy said.
As one example, the Secure Cloud platform has added support for the HaloPSA platform, on top of previously added support including for Kaseya, according to Murphy.
Ultimately, “this is a foundation that allows us to expand API capabilities,” he said. “We’re prioritizing based on feedback from our MSP partners. But we do this because we want to help you increase your productivity. We want to make it easier and more desirable to work with us.”
