$84 Billion Cloud Market, AI A ‘Prime Factor’ In Growth

Enterprise spending on cloud infrastructure services reached $84 billion during the third quarter of 2024, up roughly $16 billion, or 23 percent year over year.

“While some market headwinds have diminished, it is undoubtedly AI that is a prime factor behind this increased growth rate. New AI-oriented services and technology are helping the major cloud providers to ride a wave,” said Dinsdale. “New capabilities lead to increased demand, which leads to increased revenues, which then enables more investment in underlying technologies.”

Relative to early 2023, Synergy said Google Cloud, AWS and Microsoft have seen growth rates improve, with a particularly strong uptick at AWS and Google Cloud. Synergy’s cloud market data includes global sales from Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and hosted private cloud services. IaaS and PaaS services account for the bulk of the market.
